Annandale, Trafalgar Street

The homeowners of this classic corner Victorian terrace and former shop wanted to extend their home, incorporating old and new in a cohesive way, respectful to the historic features. Council regulations dictated that the profile of their structure was not to exceed the height of the parapet of the neighbouring terrace. The addition of a contemporary, semi-circular zinc-clad wall tucks in neatly behind the historic facade, anchoring the rooftop addition to the original lower storey. Tall narrow louvered windows echo the windows in the original building. A traditional style balcony was also added above the shopfront awning, allowing more access to outdoor space. The resulting updates incorporate old and new in a stunning and sympathetic design, receiving praise from Council for its sensitivity to a prominent local landmark. The original building has now been heritage listed.
